Some people fart rainbows.
My husband for instance. lol It’s true. He’s the eternal optimist and I’m the pessimist- or at least the devil’s advocate- which people would never guess. :)
Needless to say, lately, that pessimistic side seems to be fueled more and more each day. And with every added milligram, I find myself swinging back and forth between hopeful and just plain depressed. Again, it’s to be expected; I’ve been told. Long story short though, right now I’d prefer to puff out a few rainbows myself.
So ironically, last night my little family of three was curled up on the couch, under our baby soft electric blanket watching Despicable Me 2, and I suddenly felt it. The urge to create my own rainbow. :) For the first time in a few days, I perked up and started tapping my foot against the coffee table. My husband looked over Nolan (who was engrossed in the movie) and smiled at my low humming. We’d reached the part where Pharrell’s voice crooned “this raaainy day is teeeeemporary” over an I-wanna-snap-my-fingers beat. I started to clap my hands and do a little dance. Nolan gave me a crooked smile like I was crazy but I laughed. We all laughed and it felt gooood.
Music has always been my rainbow. I don’t just listen to the beat, I have to hear all the words. There are songs I’ll hate at first, then look up the lyrics and read them in conjunction with playing the song, and all of a sudden my tune changes. The song transforms for me. It becomes applicable. Same with the videos… I’m always curious as to what drives the song’s message- the journey to the chorus. Music brings meaning for me… My husband on the other hand won’t even know what a song’s trying to convey and love it simply because it pumps a beat he can run to- lol- and running brings him rainbows. We’re all different, but I couldn’t wait to look up the rest of the lyrics. And here they are:
“Just A Cloud Away”
This rainy day is temporary
The contrast is why we got ’em
‘Cause sun shining through is just a cloud away-way-way-way-way-way
Way-way-way-way-way-way (hey, baby!)
So what you blown a fuse (you blown a fuse)
Well, that happens to us all (that happens to us all)
When I come with great news (I come with great news)
The day could change (change), change (change), change (change), change (change)
We’ve all, of course, been there before
Been there crying, fighting the dark
Let good energy be your strong
Won’t get away-way-way-way
This rainy day is temporary
The contrast is why we got ’em
‘Cause sun shining through is just a cloud away-way-way-way-way-way,
Way-way-way-way-way-way (hey, baby!)
Well, today the rock star (today the rock star)
Feels like singing the blues (feels like singing the blues)
Don’t abandon that song (don’t abandon that song)
‘Cause the tune could change (change), change (change), change (change), change
We’ve all, of course, been there before
Been there crying, fighting the dark
Gravity doesn’t mean the earth’s
Your ball and chain (chain), chain (chain), chain (chain), chain (chain)
This rainy day is temporary
The contrast is why we got ’em
‘Cause sun shining through is just a cloud away-way-way-way-way-way,
Way-way-way-way-way-way (hey, baby!)
Everything is cyclical
What goes around does come back around, baby
Everything boomerangs
What goes up must come down
Love is warm, winter’s cold
Humility will keep your feet on the ground
So do your thing through the rain
If you understand, won’t you sing with me now?
This rainy day is temporary
The contrast is why we got ’em
‘Cause sun shining through is just a cloud away-way-way-way-way-way,
Way-way-way-way-way-way
I don’t need to go on and on; I just wanted to share with those that need a rainbow or prefer to start their weekend with a smile. It’s funny where and when we find inspiration. Unexpected, just like life…
I may not be farting rainbows just yet but I do have some pretty sweet new dance moves.
Thanks, Pharrell. :)
And PS- I like that fighting stance ;)
